How to apply for a EHIC card online now you're a Spanish resident.

First some facts:

• If you're receiving a British state pension then you apply via the UK system : https://www.ehic.org.uk
• If you're receiving UK benefits then contact the UK system as you may have to use the UK system.
• If you're a resident in Spain and not retired then you have to be paying into the social security system to get a Spanish EHIC.
• The Spanish EHIC entitles you to free emergency care in other EU member states such as if you returned to the UK on holiday.

How to apply online:

• Click the link to goto their official site: https://sede.seg-social.gob.es/Sede_...dex.htm?URL=98
• Click Solicitar/Renovar Tarjeta Sanitaria

• Enter your name and address in Residentes en España
• Enter your Social Security number in No. affiliación SS
• Select NIE where it says Tipo de Identificación

When entering your NIE replace the first - (hyphen) with a zero and remove the second - (hyphen) all together EG: X-987654-X would be X0987654X

• Click Aceptar (accept)
