Looking for jobs in Cadiz region will travel

Afternoon,

We are hoping to move to Cadiz or Camposoto by mid summer and would be grateful if anyone hears of any jobs going for :

Female, Hair stylist & nail technician fully qualified with 12 years of experience
Male, UK Driving instructor or any sort of job driving.

We understand driving instructor is probably a big no no as it would involve retraining but any advice would be appreciative.

We are having to move to Spain to look after my elderly parents as they can not afford to return to the UK so any help would be grand!

Hi Jiffy sorry to hear about your parents ill health that must be really hard for you all, where are they living and ow long have they been here.

You are asking how work is here well I really don't want to be doom and gloom (I'll leave that to a certain mod ) but in this part of Spain there really isnt any, Brits have gone back in droves in the last year because they just have not been able to get work. There are a few Brits that have made a go of working here but they didn't do it over night and the ones that are still here had a few years of making a lose rather than a profit and even now only just scrap by.

Most of the people Brits left here fall into 3 groups, peeps like me and JFB who took early retirement and live on a small fixed income waiting for their pensions to kick in. People like your parents that have there UK pensions and get by and then a very small group of younger people that manage to make a living. The thing to remember that most of the Brits left here are on small incomes and don't have a lot of money to spend, they just get by living day to day.

The Spanish in this area will often only deal with Spanish trades people so if you did manage to get work you would not have much of a Spanish clientel and unless you can speak Spanish then I fear you will not financial survive in today climate. Even in the best of times this area has never been good for employment.

Oh Jiffy, I sound dreadful and maybe I will get critisize for saying what I have but I would rather you were told the facts than to be lead to believe everything was hunkydory here. When I send you the estate agents names I will also send you the name of a local forum that will be able to help you, but I warn you now you will be told no differnt on there.

When I had a look on here to see what TCW had said the name JIFFY in my posts were in red ink, so I posted asking why. The when that post, posted the RED JIFFY's were black It's been a funny old day for me to day

Get back on track guys. This is a serious enquiry here!!

Having lived in the Chiclana area of Cádiz for almost 5 years, I have to say that what Crispy has to say makes a whole lot of sense. If you don´t speak Spanish then you are going to have to cater to ex-pats and they are leaving in droves for one reason or another. I don´t know what the ex-pat situation is like in the area that your parents live in but, if there are loads, then there is probably an English speaking hairdresser and nail technicain in the vacinity. You need to check this out.

My advice to you would be to come over, with plenty of money to sustain your lifestyle for a few months, and do a recci. I know you have to help your elderly parents but what use would you be if you couldn´t afford to live here yourselves?

I do hope that you find a way out of the dilemma for yourselves and for your parents, but it isn´t going to be easy in this economic climate.
