I got our new Sky card through a month ago, phoned the telephone number on it to activate it and all went well. Our friends got their new Sky cards at the same time, but didn't do anything with them until this week. The number given to phone to activate the cards gets a recorded message in Spanish saying the number isn't recognised (I managed to get through straight away on it when I rang a month ago).
My friend then tried the customer services number and got a recorded message telling him that the new customer service number is the very one he has been trying to call for days now...see above!!!
Does anyone know if Sky has blocked incoming international calls? Does anyone know what my friend can do to get the blooming Sky card activated?
Any help would be appreciated

You're not supposed to call them from a non-UK phone line! Did you use Skype?

Sally they were talking about this on BE. I haven't read the thread myself so don't know what was said. xx
Oh it would appear not to like this link so maybe you could have a little look on B E yourself and the thread was started by Chiclanagirl and it is called Calling Sky from Spain. Hpe I haven't broken some golden rule here but you know me.!!
The new sky phone numbers (08442) are not able to be called from outside the UK and ROI.
And so if the message they are getting is in Spanish then Spanish system is not getting thru to the English system....as expected if trying to dial a number that blocks non UK and Roi numbers!
So
a) use some / all forms of called ID blocking you can use on your phone
b) get someone in the uK to call sky on your behalf to activate the card
c) use Skype or other VOIP service (yes they do work)

When my card arrived in Sept, it didn't work so I phoned Sky on Skype and they couldn't activate so they arranged for a new one to be sent and disabled the warning message. My new card arrived this week, put it in the box and it activated perfectly - no need for any further calls to Sky. So it seems that usually there is no need to phone Sky at all.![]()
