Site speed.

I've been made aware (it's not happened to me yet) that the site will crawl in terms of speed randomly throughout the day.

This is odd as I'm on and off it all the time and not witnessed it so I'm going to have to rely on you guys to help me diagnose the problem.

Right now I've made some minor changes in the background but more importantly since people were complaining that chatbox was incredibly slow at times I've replaced it with another much more basic chatbox to diagnose if it was this that was causing the problem.

I'd like as much feedback as possible as if I exhaust all avenues then the next port of call will with contacting the hosting company and they will REALLY appreciate this thread to help diagnose stuff their end also.

Think Sammy means the new forum software as I know the chatbox was slow for you as you told me so!

Also have a feeling that these slow down periods are mainly in the evening, if anyone can confirm this, this would help a lot.

I think it my be hosting issue as when other sites hosted with our host become busy when people get back frrom work then that might be the cause of the slow down.

Only saying this as I'm mostly using MS of a day so might explain why I've not seen the forum really slow.

Ok I've emailed the host and to help them (and me)

When you're experiencing a slow down on here can you please report the following:

• What you were doing on the site at the time
• What date and the time
• Please describe the type or problem

Notes:

If you were in the chatbox or arcade and it slowed down please go on the forum and select a few posts are they slow? etc

Describing the problem, does your browser sit as "contacting myspain.es" for ages? or do you get a white screen or an error message?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think I may have notably fixed some of the speed problems.

For some reason the powers that be at vBulletin had not compressed the PNG images that are used on all the pages. I have now done so and that has saved 75% in file size so that's 75% less the site has to send you so it should be notably quicker once your cache clears.

You can clear you cache by holding down the shift key and pressing f5 so the site reloads, otherwise your web browser will do it for you in a few hours or a day or two.

It is better now for me was slower, but now taking about 4 secs to load a page, as a comparison a similar size page BE loads in about 2 secs.

Well, I logged in earlier today and read djembe's post (above) so it should be "read" in my "you have X number of unread posts" - but it's come back up as unread????? Always good to read and re-read his posts and no big deal of course but thought I'd let you know!!
