Default NEW TO THE COSTA DEL SOL

Hello everyone - my husband and I (in our fifties) are looking forward to our imminent arrival on the Costa del Sol. We'll be renting a place in Alhaurin de la Torre for 6 weeks whilst we find our semi-perm abode. Are looking forward to meeting lots of you and would also be interested in any info/tips and purchasing any language/info books or cds anyone has finished with.

    Morning and welcome.

I can´t help because I live on the Costa de la Luz but a few people on here live out that way so I´m sure they´ll be able to help. As Tim says, ask away.

Hola and welcome, like JJH I live Costa de la Luz so don't know much about the area, as for books and cd's on leaarning Spanish I need to look that one up but once you get here you do need to have lessons, it won't happen over night will take years as something new happens everyday.

    Hi Beverley and welcome!!

I'm not in your chosen area either (oop Northwest) but I see from elsewhere that you've already met our Jojo who is from there so will be able to advise you.

Start immersing yourself in the lingo now - just stick Spanish radio on in the background, try watching a few programmes (have a pen/paper and dictionary handy) and you'll start picking up bits and pieces of vocab. What interests you? Buy Spanish magazines, books etc reflecting that interest. Then as has been said, get yourself some lessons. Don't worry about sounding "stupid" or using the incorrect grammar - the very fact that you are seen to be at least making the effort, when so many don't - will be greatly appreciated. Whatever you're worried about regarding the language, don't worry about talking to us here about it - chances are we've gone through it all ourselves and made mistakes along the way - but survived pretty unscathed!

    Best of luck!

    LG xx

    Welcome beverleyp to myspain,

I am not resident in Espana but do have a casa up Velez Malaga way which is not a million miles from you, it's a great area with plenty going on...or nothing at all, whatever floats your boat really.
Take La gallegas' advise with regard the language also childrens books are a very good way finding your way around the lingo.
Enjoy your stay and keep us updated on your great adventure...

  8. Thanks from:

    Tim
