Default A surrealistic experience on the autovia del Mediterraneo

Well weeks after it happened I'm still shaking. A friend I met a few years ago while he was on a vacation here, came again for 2 months. Now I do have to mention that he has some mental issues. Anyway-this time since he was coming for a longer period he decided to ship his car for the trip in a container from the US(yes he is American). And the car itself-extremely modified 2001 bmw m5. And by extremely I mean spending around 50000 US dollars on it so it has around 900 ponies under the hood.

Anyway-we went to Puerto Banus and he had a few drinks after I agreed to drive on the way back(I don't drink haha). So we staid there till 3-4 in the morning and we left. So on the way back I was driving a bit over the limit(around 80 mph)... so yeah-slightly above the limit. And that was till my friend turned off the CD player and said "Yo stop driving like a p****y. Start driving as a normal human being or I'm driving". So I was about to say OK go on but giving this car even to it's owner is a bad idea -a man in his mid 30's after having about a bottle of scotch. This car literally takes your breath away when you push the gas pedal. So right after the turn at Cabopino I was forced to "push it". And before I knew it-160mph. I saw a car in front but I couldn't even see what car it was so I made sure he sees me and we literally flew by him. Then I saw blue lights turn on in the mirror and quickly fading away. I obviously panicked but my friend told me to take it to the limit and turn off my lights-more than 200mph with no lights. Well after some thought the next day I did realize that they would have never had the chance to see what car it is, not to mention the plates. So in a matter of seconds we lost them and we went into Calahonda(where he is staying). So I started driving up to the house where he is staying and out of nowhere a guardia civil popped up in front of us. And I was less than a breath away from dying. A foreigner driving like mad on a Spanish motorway in 4 in the morning a completely illegal car on plates with a sign saying "Michigan". I thought that was it. So they pulled us over, spent around 40 minutes looking at our documents and asking us where have we been. I obviously said "David bar in Riviera del Sol and a friends house after that". They asked where was my friends house and I said Riviera again(I already had in mind who should I call that will realize what is happening and cover me up). They looked at me and said "Have you been drinking?" I said no of course. then they said "What about your friend?". I said "Well this is the reason why I'm driving." So they were alright. The officer smiled and said "Here are your documents back". Take care.

They went back into their car and I started up the engine. And just as they were about to leave one of them stepped out and came back to us. he asked me if we have a permission for the custom exhaust pipe. I looked surprised and turned to my friend and asked him(since he doesn't speak Spanish). He looked at me in the same way and said "Tell him that I don't need a permit for the exhaust pipe in the US". So I translated that bakc to the officer. He laughed and said "Oh OK. Nevermind in that case. Just keep it quiet cause some neighbours might complain and this might get you into trouble". I was like OK thank you very much.

So we all left and my friend started breathing deeply and shouted something like "THANK GOOOOOD FOR REDNECKS!!! There's nothing special about my exhaust pipe. I wanted to enjoy the sound of the engine. HAAAAHAHAHAH they thought this was the exhaust pipe AAHAHAHA".

And if something had gone wrong-they had a million and one reasons to send me to jail for the next 700 years. I guess "playing dumb" works sometimes...

He left yesterday but before he left we went to trafico to see if there is anything wrong. Turned out that he had passed with 120 kph at the radar in la cala. So no big fuss-he paid a fine of a few hundred euros and it's all fine.

Hmm...no wonder there are so many deaths on the Spanish roads with people like you on them. People who drink and drive do not deserve to have a licence. Count yourself extremely lucky you got away with it this time. Not something I would want to boast about though!

Well said Chris, too many chulos about on the Spanish roads already. What a, for want of a better work, prat, to think this is all gung ho. OK he wasn´t the one drinking but the fact that he was being goaded on by a drunk, beggars belief. The sad thing is getting just a fine won´t make them think any diffeerntly next time, and maybe next time they will kill someone. To the OP I say, ditch your friend before he gets you into some serious trouble and, if you don´t, don´t come on here bragging about it, we´ve got better things to do.
