    Help. what should i do??!!!???
You do need to pay it and by now you have probably lost the right to a discount for early payment. If you are resident in Spain and if in the future were stopped by the Guardia the car could be impounded if there are fines outstanding.

Or you could get pulled as you come through customs.

Default Paying a speeding fine from the UK

I'm new to this forum and only found it from searching for how to pay a Spanish speeding fine from the UK.

I received a speeding fine notice early December 2009. I believe it's legitimate. The date of the speeding fine is correct for when we were in Spain, as is the make of hire car and the general location. I've checked with the hire car company and also sent a copy to the Spanish embassy in the UK. All say it's legitimate.

....but I can't figure out how to pay it.

    If I go to:
https:// (I'm not allowed to post a url as I'm new to this forum so join this line to the next)
    apl.dgt.es/WEB_Sanciones/jsp/sincertificado/identificacionPagador.jsf

...then I can't complete this form as I have nothing to put into the Document Number first field.

The Embassy told me I could call 0034 965 925 759 and speak to an English speaking operator who would help me. Did this; no-one spoke English...

So I'm left with just ignoring it as far as I can see...

If anyone can tell me how to fill in that online form as someone who doesn't live in Spain and so doesn't have any Spanish ID stuff, then that would be great. I've tried every possible number on the fine letter. Tried my passport number. Nothing....

    Hi there,

I would personally keep trying the number the embassy gave you as you may get someone who can speak English.

However, a better way I feel would be to contact the hire car company (assuming that's what you used) and ask them to pay it for you and of course ask for a evidence of them doing so.

Currently you can not pay it online unless you have some sort of Spanish residency. Yes, a pain but they are meant to be changing it soon to a more easy to understand and use system.. But this is Spain we're talking about and nothing happens overnight!

Thanks for your reply. The car hire company had told me I could pay the fine via Abbey National (part of Santander)....I went in the local Abbey before Christmas....they said I couldn't...

I've put the query back to the car hire company to see if they can pay the fine and get me a receipt...

I've also faxed the DGT office before Christmas...nothing so far.

I think this is just going to fizzle away for me as I'm running out of options. If I get pulled next time we're in Spain then c'est la vie. I'm not flying over to Spain now just to pay a speeding fine!

    Thanks again.

Are you sure they`ll chase you for it? I remember going to Southern Ireland once, and we looked for where we could park legally on a street. The traffic warden gave us some assistance but told us that even if we`d parked improperly and got a ticket they`d have never pursued it outside of the country.

There was a tale on another forum recently of someone being arrested as they went through passport control for a motoring offence committed 5 years previously. They were imprisoned!!
